Depending on the context, “Hoʻomau” has many meanings - just like most Hawaiian words and phrases. When naming this particular mākeke (market), we chose this name because it was broad enough to be inclusive, but specific enough that it spoke directly to our mission. Hoʻomau means “to continue, perpetuate, persevere” and each of our vendors exemplify these values in all aspects of their business.
Ingrained in our event is a mission to give back to our community. To create a more regenerative economy, we hope to perpetuate spending our dollars within our Hawaiʻi communities.
A portion of the proceeds from each events are donated to Native Hawaiian nonprofits and organizations that do great work for our lāhui.
